The aim of the course is to provide an insight into the musical connections established between Vienna and two cities/ regions within the Habsburg empire - Pressburg and the Austrian Netherlands.[Note: No class session on 16 February 2018].

About this course
- a general understanding of the historical and cultural background to each city in the 18th century- an appreciation of the musical influences and connections that developed between Vienna, Pressburg and the Austrian Netherlands- specific knowledge of certain composers and the works they produced for each city/ region.

The course will focus on those Viennese musical ideas that established themselves in both Pressburg and The Austrian Netherlands, and will also explore the musical ideas that Vienna in turn inherited from those same cities.
