The course aims to enhance enjoyment of music by developing abilities in composition and analysis, and engaging with musical texts in the context of different periods and styles.This term focuses on techniques of analysis, surveying different approaches to understanding the function and significance of music.Building on technical skills developed in Terms 1 and 2, we explore a selection of works of different styles, including film music, to understand form, structure, and ways in which the music conveys meaning.Short written tasks in analysis will be complemented by style study composition activities.

About this course

- Listen to music actively and analytically- Be more familiar with and recognise musical genres, forms and structures- Appreciate the variety of approaches to musical analysis- Understand and recognise different types of narrative design in music including film music- Have greater fluency in score-reading in different styles- Have a greater understanding of the art of composition and interpretation.

Please bring a notebook and pen.You may wish to buy some of the music or books recommended in class.
