About this course

There are no specific recommended learning requirements for this course, although students should be able to demonstrate a minimum of level 1 literacy skills. The course is appropriate for qualified workplace personnel who are required as part of their role to mentor new or developing staff within their workplace setting. The course is also appropriate for learners aged 16 plus on courses of learning who will mentor and support a peer learner.

Course Content:
The qualification consists of 3 mandatory units: The Role of the Mentor, Developing Mentoring Skills, and Demonstrating Skills in Mentoring and Support. In order to achieve the award students have to complete all 3 mandatory units. The programme focuses on further developing essential mentoring skills: including active listening skills, organisational skills and awareness of the mentor / mentee relationship.

Assessment will be in the form of internal assessment and successfully compiling a portfolio of evidence at the required level.

Progression:
Students who complete the Certificate in Mentoring Level 2 may wish to pursue further vocational training in mentoring, Coaching, teaching or social work.
