Is it for me?
This course will give you an excellent foundation in administration and secretarial skills.
During the course you will produce a portfolio of evidence. At the beginning of the course you will be assessed for prior learning and this may be used towards the evidence required. If you do not have the required experience in a topic, you will undertake a variety of administration tasks in the Admin workshop to demonstrate competence.
Where will I study?
Baltic Campus
You'll be based at our fantastic £39million Baltic campus on the quayside. The campus has a prime location on Gateshead quayside, and state-of-the-art facilities including a Jacuzzi, gym and sauna, a 200 seat theatre, state-of-the-art classrooms, training kitchen and restaurant, refectory, bistro and vending areas.
What do I need?
There are no formal entry requirements although work experience in an Admin role would be advantageous.
Acceptance onto some courses may be subject to a satisfactory police clearance. Further guidance will be given by the course team at interview or induction.
A criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to studying on this course, a number of factors will be taken in to consideration.

You will have the opportunity to develop skills which will enable you to successfully carry out tasks such as :
  • Reception duties
  • Filing
  • Use of the telephone/fax/mailbox
  • Reprographics/binding/laminating
  • Handling mail
  • Stock control
  • Information Technology
You will also learn a range of communication skills appropriate for colleagues and customers.
Assessment
Your progress will be continuously assessed by your Assessor and externally assessed by an OCR verifier.
What qualification will I get?
OCR NVQ Business and Administration Level 2
Can I go onto further study?
Completion of the Level 2 qualification may lead to further study - NVQ Level 3. Alternatively there is a wide range of IT courses available to compliment/enhance your career prospects.
What are the career opportunities?
The OCR NVQ has national accreditation and can lead directly into office-based employment or further study - NVQ Level 3.
