Course content:
The CLaIT 2006 qualification has been designed to allow you to gain skills and test the practical use of a wide range of common software applications. The units are as follows:
Core Unit: File Management and e-Document Production
Optional Units: Creating Spreadsheets and Graphs
Database Manipulation
e-Publication Creation
Create an e-Presentation
e-Image Creation
Web Page Creation

Course structure:
The OCR Level 1 Certificate for IT Users (CLaIT 2006) course consists of 8 separate units. Each of these units normally takes about 20 hours (that's 10 sessons of 2 hours) to complete and is regarded as an individual achievement in its own right.
To achieve a certificate qualification, you are required to complete 3 units; the core unit plus 2 additional units.
Assessment procedure:
The OCR Level 1 Certificate for IT Users (CLaIT 2006) is designed to recognise the skills, knowledge and understanding of IT users everywhere.
Evidence of competence in the CLaIT 2006 course is assessed by the completion of self-assessment and marked sample assignments as well as an exam to end each unit.
Progression opportunities:
This course will equip learners with the basic range of transferable skills necessary to meet the demands of the modern workplace.
You will have the knowledge and skills to be able to use computers in an office environment. This course is a good starting point for students who want to progress to the OCR Level 2 Certificate for IT Users (ClaIT plus).

Many part-time students at South Tyneside College do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, depending on the course and the number of hours a week you study, you may be eligible for an Adult Learners†Grant.
