WHAT WILL I LEARN?

This course comprises core modules in management, specialist modules at the cutting edge of practice in the oil and gas industries, and an organisation-based internship, consulting project or dissertation.

Programme Structure

All MBA students study five core management modules, four mandatory modules and an internship or project.

MBA Oil and Gas Management Modules include:

Advanced Business Practice, Sustainable Strategy – from Planning to Implementation, Leading in a Changing World, Finance, Funding and Legislative Frameworks for Success, Marketing in a Global, Age, International Environmental Law, Project Management, Integrated Emergency Management, The Impacts of Oil Production in the Developing World, Organisation Internship or Consulting Project or Dissertation.

In our consultations with business leaders and prospective MBA students, they told us how much work experience matters. Coventry University London Campus is committed to offering students a work experience opportunity for up to ten weeks.

This experience will provide an opportunity:

  • For first-hand experience of the business and working culture of an organisation
  • To work independently on a significant, managerial issue with your employer’s supportand academic guidance
  • To create management reports for multiple stakeholders
  • To build commercial awareness and understanding in the context of decision-making
  • To develop more effective communication and presentation skills
  • To build up a stronger set of personal and professional skills

Work experience at Coventry University London Campus can be undertaken in a variety of ways; an internship, an individual consultancy project or a group consulting project.

As an alternative to completing an internship or Consulting Project, the dissertation forms a substantial part of the overall study leading to the MBA and is an opportunity for work experience related to the in-depth study of an organisation.

The dissertation should draw on the intellectual and analytical skills and knowledge developed during the programme. The module also provides an opportunity for students to develop their interest in a particular area related to their career aspirations and to demonstrate an ability to undertake individual research.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

You’re learning at Coventry University London Campus is underpinned and supported by the latest developments in technology. Audience Response Systems are used in class to quickly explore your level of understanding and identify any specific issues to focus on.

We use audio visual materials in a range of ways to bring the curriculum to life, through recorded interviews with business leaders, recording key lectures and seminars for you to review and re-watch or in recording your own board presentations as part of your assessed work.

Student Profile: Millicent Anao, Ghana

When I was at university, Ghana discovered oil. I saw it as a fascinating opportunity and got an internship in the marketing department of Global Petroleum Ghana Limited. I liked the experience so much that I decided to study this area more. Currently I am undertaking an internship, providing consulting services to an organisation interested in exploring the natural gas market in the UK.
There are many things I enjoy about the campus: the university itself, the tutors, the assignments, the way the course is structured, and, most importantly, the diversity on campus. Meeting people from different countries has really helped me broaden my horizons. The diversity of cultures means the diversity of ideas, and it has been a great experience socially and professionally – stepping outside of my comfort zone and learning something new every day.
Moreover, it is a perfect place to establish business contacts by meeting corporate people. There are many events on campus, you always see people in suits, which makes you want to be a part of that world, the world of business.
The academic experience at Coventry University London Campus has been very different from the one I had back home, in Africa. I really like the culture of an equal dialogue between the students and the lecturers here: you can voice your opinion, even if it differs from the lecturer’s, as long as you back it up with arguments. The internship has also been one of the most valuable parts of the degree because the practical experience helps me understand and put into context what we learn in the classroom.
