The first session will be at the City Lit where you will practice basic colour mixing and textural techniques in preparation for working onsite at the London Charterhouse. The rest of the course will be spent making watercolour studies and sketches of the architecture and gardens at Charterhouse. The London Charterhouse is a historic complex of buildings in Smithfield, London, dating back to the 14th century. Substantial fragments remain from this monastic period, but the site was largely rebuilt after 1545 as a large courtyard house. The historic interiors and surrounding gardens offer interesting subject matter for work in watercolours. You will work in an A3 sized watercolour sketchbook, making observational studies and sketches in watercolour paint.
