What is the Level 2 2D CAD course?
A new intermediate level course is ideal for students wishing to gain a qualification. The course aims to supply the candidate with a broad level of understanding in the use of computer aided design and practical skills development of parametric CAD and the 3D CAD environment.
Course topics
- Use associated IT, CAD hardware and operating systems
- Use basic file management techniques and maintain health and safety requirements
- Understand the parametric modelling process, the user interface and how to access help and tutorials
- Use a range of commands to create and constrain sketches
- Use the range of commands to produce extruded and revolved features
- Use placed features to modify parametric models
- Use methods to create assemblies
- Use the drawing layout environment to produce hard copies
The majority of the course is hands on and you will work at your own pace through a series of guided exercises in the tutorial book with the help of the tutor. You will have use of a computer in a well-equipped room. It will help your progress if you have access to an AutoCAD package outside of College to practise between lessons.
Assessment details
The outcomes from this unit will be assessed using evidence from two set assignments and an on-line multiple choice question paper.

This is a Learning & Skills Council (LSC) funded course and you may be exempt from the tuition fee, however you would be required to pay the registration fee at the time of application.
Extra costs : Writing materials, notebook and a storage device eg USB memory stick or CD-R. Students may find it useful to purchase tutorial manual approx £10, AutoCAD reference book various price from £15.00 to £50.00.
