Art Appreciation : Spanish Art From El Greco to Dali

Course content:
2 courses which, taken together, survey the Spanish art from the 16th to the 20th century.
The first part of a 2 part course which surveys Spanish art from the 16th to the 20th century explores the polarities of down to earth, sometimes grim realism on the one hand and the visionary and the fantastical on the other, which pervade Spanish art and culture.
The first part takes in, Inter alia, the mystical language of El Greco, the subtle observations of Velasquez, the devastating horror of Goya and the vibrant architectural fantasies of Gaudi.
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- Identify the defining characteristics of the work of artists studied.
- Locate those works within the historical and cultural framework of the time of their production.

Course Structure:
A chronological approach will be taken. The classes will be lecture-based using PowerPoint for images but discussion will play a significant role.….

Powerpoint presentation.All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access.

Through class participation and individual student progress assessment sheets
