Course Overview

Qualification gained: This course does not lead to a formal qualification

Course Content: The course covers the following areas: Health & Safety; Hive types/bee space; Disease/vermin/pests of bees; swarming & control; Honey harvest; Products of the hive; Beekeepers year; How bees work; History of Beekeeping.

Work Experience: Learners do not need to be in relevant employment to enrol on the course

Course Assessment: Assessment will be through tutor observation and feedback

Progression: Learners may wish to progress to the beekeeping practical course at Newbury College

Homework: There may be some homework associated with the course, up to 1 hour per week

Additional Costs: The tutor will advise of any additional costs during the first week of the course
