WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE COURSE
Everyone who works in this sector, both paid and unpaid and who have successfully completed a Level 2 qualification and have proven experience may access this course.
Examples of placements/settings include: Day Care, Crèches, Schools, Pre School, Children's Centres, Sure Start, Hospitals and Extended Schools.
It is strongly recommended that candidates do NVQ Level 2 prior to this course.

NB: A satisfactory (CRB) police check is required in order to complete this course.

COURSE STRUCTURE AND CONTENT
The NVQ in Children's Care, Learning and Development comprises of 5 mandatory units and 4 optional units.

Level 3 qualifications are primarily for those who work in face to face roles with children and families, who may have supervisory responsibilities, specialist roles or work unsupervised. It would not be possible for practitioners who did not have some responsibility for children or access to children's provision to obtain mandatory units at Level 3.Where Level 3 practitioners have a peripatetic advisory role without direct responsibility for children, careful planning and guidance would be required to determine whether this was an appropriate qualification and whether it would be possible to evidence competence for all mandatory units.

ASSESSMENT
This course is assessed by a variety of methods to include:

• Work based assessments
• Written questions
• Witness statements
• Dairy evidence
• Completed portfolio

WHERE COULD THE COURSE LEAD?
This course could lead onto a Level 3 Supervisor course, or a Level 4 Deputy Manager course.
