About this course

You will need a mature caring approach rather than formal qualifications. You will need to be 18 years old or above. The theory work will include anatomy and physiology study as well as the theory of plant oils and their uses, so experience of study is useful. You need to be physically able to provide massage.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
This course follows the concept of Holistic Health, treating the 'whole person' - the cause, rather than the symptoms of an illness.
You will study essential oils and their many uses as a therapeutic complementary treatment, you will also study and practice full body massage.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
You will study the following subjects:

Essential oils and carrier oils, their therapeutic properties and practical application
Basic and advanced aromatherapy massage techniques
Anatomy and physiology
Client care
Business Employment Standards/Health and Safety

WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
You will need to have revised your Anatomy and Physiology and Business / Health & safety in preparations for external tests. You will have to undertake case studies covering a range of 60 treatments, home assignment and class activities and a minimum of 2 practical assessments. You will need a minimum of 80% course attendance due to practical demonstration and assessment. A commitment to both theoretical home study and practical work is essential, approximately 5 hours per week.

WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
On successful completion of the course, you will obtain the Diploma in Aromatherapy from Vocational Training Charitable Trust of the International Institute of Health and Holistic Therapies (VTCT / IIHHT).

WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
Aromatherapists work in many areas such as hospitals, health clinics or from home. Many also study a further therapy such as Reflexology or other healing/complementary therapies.
