Director's Workshop

Level: Beginners

Course content:
This five-week course will aim to provide students with a grounding of the technical and creative skills required to become a director. From a script submitted by and selected by members of the group, you will learn how to work with the script, use camera, lighting and sound and take effective responsibility for everything that appears on the screen.
By the end of course you will be able to:
1) Identify key moments in a script
2) Identify and explain tools for communicating with actors
3) Use the grammar of directing effectively
4) Identify and explain the basic functionality of the camera
5) Make decisions in the edit to create tension and increase drama

Course Structure:
The Script and the Director; The Actor and the Director; Filmmaking 10; The Shoot and the Director; The Edit and the Director;

Course resources:
All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access. Your practical training will take place in a fully equipped studio.

Assessment:
Assessment will be through practical work. The completed film will be screened at the college and evaluated by all students.

Next step:
Make a short film, gain work in the industry, apply for film school.

When information is available you will notice 2 different fees stated for this course. The fee you pay is dependent on your status:
Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.Materials costs:
Students will be requested to bring their own tapes and DVDs.
