PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
This qualification has been designed to support students awareness of the different aspects involved in working in the catering industry and to develop students practical skills at entry level catering. It will encourage the development of practical skills in food hygiene in planning and preparing meals and in communicating effectively in catering situations.

The course will also assist those wishing to progress towards further vocational studies. This qualification contains six units, which are of equal value. There is not a final examination but each unit is assessed independently. In order to achieve certification students must be successful in all units.

In addition to studying Functional Skills the subjects covered will include:

Developing Food Preparation and Cooking
Introduction to Food Hygiene and safe Practice
Developing Food service Skills
Health and Safety
Managing Money
Interview Skills

PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of this course students will be able to progress onto a Level 1 NVQ in Hospitality Multi-skills along with a suitable tutor reference if they have the following criteria:

90% attendance and punctuality
Independent Trade test
Clear disciplinary record on STARS or through their reference.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE Portfolio assessment and continuous assessment through observation
EXCURSIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE Work experience in college or subject to ability. Outside visits
