General Overview
This programme is about learning and practising skills for designing and making jewellery and accessory products for those aiming for a career in this field. Level One introduces you to practical making skills in a workshop environment. Themes and ideas are explored in the studio to take you through the design process and visual recording.
At level Two more advanced techniques for production broaden your experience and a negotiated project and work related final project underpin the development of your interests and career aspirations.
Creative skills across Levels One and Two are supported by Professional Practice and Contextual Studies to equip you with marketing expertise and historical and contemporary appreciation of jewellery within an applied arts context.
Why study this subject at CCAD?
A well equipped jewellery workshop and design studio nurture a creative environment for learning individually and within a group.
The problem solving design process is embedded in the workshop and studio culture. Themes and ideas are explored through a range of design activities such as research of the contemporary jewellery and accessories design market, recording and developing graphic communication techniques and visual product development.
What new skills will I acquire?
You will learn traditional and new techniques to make exclusive wearable jewellery and accessories from a range of materials such as metals, precious materials and gemstones, plastics and complementary materials.
Design projects give sufficient scope to develop your own areas of interest and market opportunities. Potential commercial areas can include designing for babies and christening gifts; weddings; anniversaries; fun and fashionable jewellery for men and women and statement pieces.
