Preferably having already undertaken level 2, but if your role allows, you just need to be working in a supervisory capacity within your work place supporting and leading other staff.Your role could involve helping to develop other staff members. You should have at least 1 years' experience working within a Care setting or undertaken level 2.

Course Overview This course is for anybody working in a Supervisory or training capacity within a Care environment which may be Residential Care, Nursing Care, Home Care (Domiciliary) or working with adults who have disabilities or special needs. You will achieve a broad knowledge of supervising or leading staff, advocating on behalf of vulnerable adults and gaining a recognised national qualification to enhance professional development. NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care is a pathway into Nursing Training.

Qualification gained: City & Guilds National Vocational Qualification in Health & Social Care level 3.

Course Content: You will learn the underpinning knowledge of Care at the level 3 stage. The different ways in which discrimination can occur, how to recognise it and the ways in which it can be managed. You will learn an in-depth knowledge of Health & Safety and the legislation surrounding it. Continuous Professional Development will be taught not only for yourself but how to develop other staff being supervised and guided by yourself. Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory Practice and how to promote these will form a big part of the course and how to manage situations which are contradictory to good practices. You will gain knowledge in how to manage conflict and ways of avoiding volatile situations within the work place.

Work Experience: You must currently be working in a supervisory capacity within your work place and leading a team of workers.

Course Assessment: You will be continually assessed within your work place by a trained and qualified Assessor. There are 8 units, of which 4 are mandatory plus 4 other optional units, which you can choose depending on the job you are actually doing. You will be supported throughout your training, workshops will be carried out at the College to cover the core units and to offer additional support.

Progression: You can progress to level 4 and develop your career professionally.

Homework: You will be expected to undertake 4 hours per month plus additional support via workshops carried out at the College.

Additional Costs: On enrolment with City & Guilds you will be given a work pack with candidate guidance, The National Standards and all the relevant paperwork needed for your portfolio. All relevant books can be found here at the College, a list will be given to you at your induction.
