You will learn the basics of beading techniques using both thread and wire to make necklaces, pendants, and earrings. This includes design, colour-coordinating and combining different beads. This class does not include silversmithing. At the end of the course you will be able to: Design your own jewellery. Manipulate wire in order to make pendants and earrings. Attach clasps and make head pins.

Jewellery

Level: introduction

Course content:
You will learn the basics of beading techniques using both thread and wire to make necklaces, pendants, and earrings. This includes design, colour-coordinating and combining different beads. This class does not include silversmithing.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
Design your own jewellery
Manipulate wire in order to make pendants and earrings
Attach clasps and make head pins and eye pins
Tie and twist wire onto beads
Have basic understanding of how to knot between beads

Course Structure:
This is a practical course with demonstrations, photographic examples of jewellery, technical notes, guidance and group discussion.

Course resources:
Light workshop. Worksheets and samples. You will have access to the Learning Centre at Tooting which has a good selection of beading books and magazines.

Assessment:
Teacher feedback, Progress Records, Student and peer self-assessment, Course file appraisal.

Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.Materials costs:
You will need to purchase basic equipment and some beads. Approx: initial cost £10
