You don't need any formal qualifications to enrol on this course however you will need a desire to work in the exercise and fitness industry and a willingness to learn. However there will be formal assessment carried out prior to being accepted on the course.

Is the course for me?
This course will provide you with the knowledge and understanding to begin your professional career in the exercise and fitness industry. On completing this course you will be qualified as a level two fitness instructor. If you are looking for a change in career direction or want to build your professional qualifications in exercise and fitness then this is the course for you.

What will I learn?
You will study components of fitness, anatomy, physiology, basic nutrition, practical delivery of gym based exercise and development of fitness programmes for a range of clients with different physical needs. You will learn how to instruct gym based exercise using a variety of gym equipment including free weights, resistance machines and cardiovascular machines and how to lead a safe and effective warm-up and cool down. You will also study a recognised First Aid Qualification as well as aspects of customer service and health & safety.

Students must be aged 18 years at the time of assessment.

There will be an additonal charge of £30 for the workbooklets that are needed for the course. This has to be paid in full prior to starting the course so that the resources can be ordered.

How will I be assessed?
Your assessment will include: Underpinning knowledge in bones and joints, muscles , muscle actions & energy systems, cardiorespiratory system (human anatomy and physiology) and the components of fitness/principles of training. These components are assessed through a multiple choice exam paper.

The practical aspect of the course is examined through a 90 minute gym session comprising of a warm up, cardiovascular component, free weights, resistance machines and a cool down.

What can I do after the course?
You could look for employment in a gym or health club as a fitness instructor or progress to level 3 Advanced Fitness Instruction or Personal Training to further enhance your skills and knowledge. Beyond this there are many other opportunities which will open up to you, such as more specific qualifications as aerobics instruction.
