Course content:
This highly practical course is aimed at those interested in film and video making. The course encourages experimentation and creative development. It includes all aspects of digital video and 16mm film making with a strong emphasis on the use of sound. There is both digital and analogue editing using Final Cut Pro and Steenbeck editing tables.
This course provides a foundation in aspects of the moving image and sound, to allow students to understand current developments and deal with changes in technology. It will enable learners to develop a portfolio of work which can be shown to potential employers or higher educational establishments.

Course Structure:
This course is taught over two days (including one evening). The number of guided learning hours is 12.5 per week. One hour per week is dedicated to tutorials and two hours per week are for contextual studies. The remaining time is devoted to practical teaching and learning.

Course resources:
Cameras (16mm and digital), editing (Steenbecks and Final Cut Pro), studio with lighting facilities for film and video, radio studio

Assessment:
Assessment of knowledge and understanding occurs through a number of practical and written assignments. Students are given written and verbal feedback and action points to help them to develop their work.

This course is for students 19 years old and over. Students must be over 18 years old. They should normally have 2 A levels or another level 3 qualification, preferably in a related subject. Some knowledge or experience of lens based media or arts subject is useful, especially in the case of mature students without qualifications. Students should also have a portfolio of completed work or work in progress. All students must have an interview with one or more members of the course team. Potential students must demonstrate an enthusiasm for the subject, a willingness to study outside the course hours as well as a commitment to the course
