This course is for those who hold a Counselling qualification or work in a related profession such as Youth Workers, Drug Workers, Prison or Police Officers. The course will include; Cognitive Behavioural, Motivational Interviewing & Brief Solution Focused Therapies.

What will you study
The course will give participants the opportunity to explore, learn and apply some of the theory and application of practical skills in relation to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Brief Solution Focused Therapy. This course will equip participants with a range of real skills for real people that will be useful in any professional setting. Motivational Interviewing - A directive, client centred counselling style for helping clients explore and resolve ambivalence about behaviour and arguments for change. The Cognitive-Behavioural - Approach has been shown to be both an effective and efficient intervention, directed towards solving problems and modifying unhelpful thinking and behaviour. Brief Solution Focussed Therapy concentrates on establishing the goals of the client then finding the quickest way there. Concepts include: problem free talk, goal setting, exception finding, locating resources and building on strengths. The course structure is student centred and involves active participation throughout. Participants will be expected to build comprehensive portfolio of evidence that includes research material, alongside a reflective journal and completed assignments. Participants will share their research material in the group as mini presentations and exercises. Skill practice will be assessed on an ongoing basis and will involve peer and tutor feedback.
