The course is designed for those students who have a learning difficulty and is aimed at developing a wide range of work related, personal and interpersonal skills. Through its practical content you will gain a basic understanding of animal care and its supporting industries, and have the opportunity to build confidence, motivation and greater self esteem through progression and achievement.

As part of the course students will also receive tuition in literacy and numeracy, developing the skills they will need to move on to further learning.

Entry Requirements

Students should be at Entry Level 2.

Those students offered a place must demonstrate a willingness to learn and a desire to progress onto vocational level 1 courses or directly into employment.

  • Recognise types and parts of the body of small animals
  • Assist with catching and restraining small animals
  • Check that a small animal is healthy
  • Show visitors around small animal enterprise
  • Work safely
  • Introduction to employability skills
  • Prepare a self profile
  • Prepare for and attend an interview
