ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should currently be employed in the Hairdressing industry and have the following entry requirements:

Initial assessment at minimum Level 2 for Literacy and Numeracy Entry 3;
4 GCSE's Grades A-C, one of which must be English;
A satisfactory reference which will indicate attendance, punctuality and behaviour;
NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing;
Good Communication Skills;
Proven industrial experience at senior stylist level or above for 18 months.
Current employment in a salon - references maybe required; and
Have good manual dexterity skills (i.e. an ability to work well with their hands).


PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
Students will study nine units ranging from: Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health and Safety; create a variety of looks using a combination of cutting techniques; colour hair using a variety of techniquesand colour correction, Styling hair; Styling long hair; Hair show. Other optional units will also be available. During the practical lessons, students will be working in a realistic salon environment and will be expected to carry out hairdressing services on clients. As clients for all courses cannot be guaranteed, students may need to provide their own clients.
PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
Learners who are successful will be able to progress to an NVQ Level 4 qualification or gain employment as a manager within the profession.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE This qualification is gained through observed practical, oral and written assessment that will be on going throughout the duration of the programme. Students will be expected to collect relevant evidence through witness testimony projects and assignments towards their portfolio. Where appropriate students may be able to provide evidence of prior learning and experience which can be accredited. The portfolio of evidence will be submitted for internal and external verification. Portfolios may be required to be available for inspection up to eighteen months after completion of the programme. This is a requirements of City and Guilds.
EXCURSIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE Learners are expected to be working in a commercial salon whilst studying as it is an integral part of the programme.
READING LISTS Recommended text books to be advised during induction. A suitable lever arch file and paper with dividers.
