Coleg Sir Gar offers a variety of part time courses ranging from Skills for Working Life (Entry Level) Level 1 Certificate in Equine Skills and BHS Stages 1-3 and PTT. Tuition for riding and stable management is delivered at Pibwrlwyd Campus, Carmarthen. The Equine Unit has well-schooled horses capable of working from novice to advanced levels in dressage, show-jumping. Indoor and outdoor arenas are available for riding. All college instructors are BHS qualified and students have the opportunity to participate in examination training days for the Riding & Road Safety Test and BHS Stages delivered by BHS instructors and examiners. Students are encouraged to compete in events hosted by the college and to join visits to specialist equine veterinary practices, studs, racing yards and to Badminton Horse Trials. The college provides a friendly and supportive environment in which to improve your stable management and riding skills. Non-riding options are available.

Career Prospects and Progression

Students may progress to full time National or Advanced National Certificatein Horse Care and Management or to part time HNC Equine Studies. Successful students are well equipped to work in yard management, stud work or advisory services or as instructors or trainers.

Depending on level, modules include: - Stable management - Transporting horses - Working horses from the ground - Equitation - Horse anatomy and physiology - Nutrition - Health and disease - Teaching methods Note: There is no riding at Entry Level
