The Award comprises one unit, entitled 'Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector'. It has a value of six credits . It is based on the teaching/training cycle and is assessed by two assignments, one theory and one practical, both of which are broken down into smaller, prescriptive assignment tasks. The class based work is designed to enable learners to prepare for these assignments.

Applicants need not be in a current teaching role to apply.
Core Skills:
Lesson planning, use of resources, assessment of learners, legislation and codes of practice, mimimum core, ground rules, record keeping, methods of teaching and learning, learning styles.
Assessment:
Via prescribed practical and theoretical assignments linked to class based sessions.
