Course description
This City and Guilds level 5 Numeracy subject specialist qualification offers a professional pathway for those who need to qualify as a teacher in the Lifelong Learning Sector and also gain their subject specialism. It offers a partly integrated route in which much of the first year develops your contextualised subject specialism, followed by a more broadly based second year curriculum. The first year consists of 3 modules: Planning and Assessing for Inclusive Practice, Approaches to Mathematics Learning and Teaching and Theories and Frameworks for Mathematics Learning and Teaching. The second year consists of 4 modules: Continuing Personal and Professional Development, Curriculum Development for Inclusive Practice, Wider Professional Practice and and optional unit. You will be assessed through completed assignments presented in portfolio format and by observations from your tutor and your mentor.

Entry requirements
Applicants must already hold the Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS). Applicants need to be currently teaching or training in any of the following settings on either a paid or voluntary basis: Further Education, adult or community education, training for HM service personnel or fire or police personnel, or other training context. Applicants must have access to a minimum of 150 hours relevant teaching practice (paid or voluntary) in Numeracy and teach across a minimum of two levels of the Skills for Life curriculum over the 2 year course. It is an entry requirement that candidates hold an approved skill-specific qualification (Maths) or the ability to demonstrate level 3 skills in this area.
