Is it right for me?
A five day course which is intended for those who have some basic tractor driving ability and who wish to achieve the nationally recognised National Proficiency Test Council Certificate of Competence in tractor driving and handling. The fifth day is normally the test day, unless further skills development is required.
Please note that if you are an absolute beginner you may not be able to gain the Certificate of Competence within the five days. However a College Certificate will be awarded for successful completion of the course. Please discuss this with the course tutor on the first day.
The course is aimed at 14 ' 16 year old students who are helping on farms.
What qualifications will I need?
Basic tractor driving skill. Tetanus protection is recommended.
What will I be learning about?
You will receive instruction to the NPTC standard in all aspects of tractor handling including:
- Trailer work
- Basic PTO safety
- Loader work
- Safe working practices
You will be advised to take the test at the end of the course or after a period of practical skills development on your own holding.
What materials are required?
Steel toe'capped boots. Suitable outdoor clothing.
PLEASE NOTE: All students must bring 2 passport size photographs on the first day of their course.
What is next?
Further part time courses in the agricultural department ' ATVs.
How will I be assessed?
By NPTC test at the end of the course, commonly on the fifth day.
