The course aims to accredit individuals who carry out internal quality assurance of NVQ and other, similar, vocational programmes.
What will I learn?
We will discuss the role and responsibilities of the Internal Verifier which involves: 1 Carrying out and evaluating internal assessment and quality assurance systems, eg chairing standardisation meetings, sampling assessment decisions, managing and improving the auditng and recording processes, etc; 2 Supporting assessors, eg inducting new assessors, checking their occupational competence, identifying training needs, etc; 3 Monitoring the quality of assessors' performance, eg observing, supporting assessors carrying out assessments, etc; 4 Meeting external quality assurance requirements, eg liaising with and co-ordinating EV visits, provide data on the assessment process, ensure procedures are in place such as the appeals procedure, etc .
How will I be assessed?
You will attend 4 x 2 hour workshops and then meet on a one-to-one basis with your accredited assessor who will give you guidance, assess your evidence, and help you build up your portfolio of evidence. Assessment of you is through observation, oral questioning, examination of product evidence, witness testimony, and Professional Discussion between you and your assessor during which you will be expected to make reference to all the IV documentation held in your IV files.
What can I do after the course?
The PTLLS which prepares you to teach. It incorporates assessment, teaching methods, differentiation and the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer.
Entry Requirement
You should be a qualified Assessor (A1 or D32/33), occupationally competent and be working with a team of at least 2 assessors; involved in the full range of internal quality assurance activities which includes supporting new/trainee assessors, identifying assessors' training needs, monitoring assessment practice, observing assessors carrying out assessments, interviewing candidates, and sampling portfolios and reporting back to assessors on their assessment decisions; and communicating with the External Verifier to plan, prepare and be involved with regular external verification visits.
