Course programme
Course content:
The course is based in the workshops of the internationally known Newark School of Violin Making. It provides an opportunity to learn the basic techniques and processes involved in making your first violin.
It is the perfect introduction for anyone who wishes to build up specialist knowledge and skills while working at their own pace, either with a view to planning a career in the lutherie trade or just to develop a hobby and make their own instrument.
On the course students will gain practical experience in everything from violin design to methods of construction, use of tools and varnishing techniques.
Students keep a written record that documents all the stages of their work.

Assessment and Progression:
Assessment of progress and guidance on improvement is given throughout the course.
Successful completion of violin parts to a good standard could provide entry to the full time qualifications in violin making and repair at the college.
Duration:
An annual programme is made up of three 12 week courses. Classes take place on Thursday evenings 7pm - 9pm. 12 week courses begin in September, December and March.
