Course programme

In order that you keep abreast of new legislation and developments in manual handling, EDGE Services recommend that you attend a 'Refresher/Update' course at least every two years.

Our two day 'Refresher/Update' course is endorsed by the College of Occupational Therapists (COT) and accredited by the Open College Network (OCN) and has been designed for those who have previously attended the EDGE Services 'People Handling and Risk Assessment Key Trainer's Certificate' or similar course.

Delegates who have not originally trained with EDGE Services will be required to provide proof of their original qualification. We would normally expect candidates to have completed a four to five day course (or appropriate Refresher/Update of at least two days) no more than two years and three months prior to the commencement of your chosen Refresher/Update course. Individuals attending Refresher/Update training without meeting these criteria will not be issued a certificate, and, therefore, if you are unsure about your eligibility, please contact EDGE.

This course will further advance your professional development and manual handling skills, and give you the opportunity to trade your experiences with others.

Course Content Includes:

  • A review of new and current legislation
  • biomechanics and efficient body movement
  • manual handling risk assessment
  • commonly used 'controversial techniques'
  • full range of practical techniques and the use of patient hoists for the safer moving & handling of people
  • the opportunity to assess/review techniques and practical moving and handling scenarios

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a certificate of achievement which is valid for two years.
