The course is ideal for anyone who enjoys performing, creating high quality performance events and who wants to succeed in the creative arts industry.
What will I be learning?
The course draws on a large range of theatrical, dance, music disciplines allowing you to develop your individual skills, as well as encouraging a multi-disciplinary approach to performance. The course focuses on contemporary performance practice and trains practitioners to effectively plan, develop and devise events that are aimed at audiences.
During the first year, modules will provide for the introduction and acquisition of performance and production skills within your chosen discipline. The modules will encourage the development of performance, while managing productions and events that will entertain and engage audiences.
Year one: Performance 1 - rehearsal, production and the performance process; creating, devising and developing; production, design and technology; community performance and events; contextual studies; professional skills; work-based learning.
Modules in the second year will be tailored to allow individual creative development through negotiated projects supported by research to underpin your practice. This will culminate in a final major project.
Year two: performance 2; small scale touring; professional practice; negotiated research;
negotiated project.
How will I learn?
You will be assessed by practical work, including live performances and events; essays; presentations; participation in workshops and seminars and the production of journals. You will undertake practical performance training, trips and visits and master classes. Devising, rehearsing and performing or producing live events, in college and within the community.
The programme is assignment based - requiring independent study and research activities. No exams.
Throughout the course you will be supported in work based learning making and enjoying opportunities to engage with local arts businesses.
Student's coursework is assessed at the end of every module and all assignments are given an indicative grade.
What else might I want to know?
The programme also provides the opportunity for students to become familiar with the creative industries through a combination of live projects, production practice and placements, with the possible opportunity to engage in cultural visits to other countries.
What can I do afterwards?
Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to an honours degree in performance subjects either regionally or nationally.
At the end of the programme, students could set up as a self employed practitioner or find employment within one of the many organisations within the creative industries.
