The Popular Music ( Performing Musician ) Diploma is a course programme for those wishing to gain experience of band performance and develop their instrumental skills. It is a practical course with an emphasis on live performance through instrumental lessons, band rehearsals, recording projects and gigs.


You will be taught by practising and ex-industry professionals with touring and studio experience, covering a wide range of musical styles including rock, indie, metal, acoustic and singer songwriter. You will also complete work experience and visits to local music venues to further develop your knowledge. All course tutors and instrumental teachers are experienced professional musicians with touring and studio experience. The facilities include fully equipped band rooms, digital recording studios, music production suites and a professional performance venue.


The Performing Musician Diploma is predominantly a practical course with most work being completed in sessions. However, research and a strict practice routine is vital in order to succeed on the course. You will also engage in GEM and GAP activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills. You will also take the Silver Arts Award as part of your programme.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs (grades A*-E) or satisfactory results in a relevant Level 1 qualification, and an audition to demonstrate musical ability at grade 2 or equivalent.
