About this course

Students applying for this course must:
· Have 180hrs prior counselling training or Certificate in Counselling Skills
· Be in touch with a suitable clinical placement
· Be able to work at GCSE English (grade A-C) or above
· Be willing to undergo an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) police check by their placement
· Be 25yrs or over at the commencement of the course

About the course:
The Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA (Hons)) Degree in Person-Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy is a 3year full-time course, which has the option of a Foundation Degree in Person-Centred Counselling that can be awarded if you decide to finish your studies after successfully completing 2years. People who already have a relevant Diploma in Counselling can join at year 3.

Course Content:
You will cover: Personality development, psychopathology, practise, ethics, theory, and personal and professional development.

Learning Style:
This course requires students to attend college one day per week from 9:30 - 4:30
and two three-day weekend residential early in the second and third years. It is considered a full-time course because of the added external commitments. People who have a diploma wishing to join in year 3 will be attending on Mondays 9:30-5:00.

External commitments include:
· A clinical placement (50hours per year)
· Supervision (in line with BACP guidelines)
· Reading, independent and peer and study time

Equipment Requirements:
You will need a counselling placement, plus writing materials. Reference to books on the recommended reading list is strongly advised: the tutor will inform you at the first session

Assessment:
You be assessed in variety of ways including: written essays, group and individual presentations, practise observations, case studies and dissertation. Assessments come form tutors, peers and self.

Progression:
Successful candidates can progress to our Diploma in Counselling Supervision and or apply for a Masters Degree in Counselling.

Additional Information:
Candidates are eligible to receive a mandatory grant to cover tuition fees and should apply to the LEA (Local Education Authority) for a PN1 form.

This course is validated by Middlesex University.
