Course programme
Course review:
The course aims to teach individuals about their responsibility to understand and be aware of themselves, often in stressful situations. This is in order that they are able to manage and control other persons or subjects, using verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Or in the most challenging circumstances be able to use self-defence and breakaway techniques (i.e.; reasonable, necessary and proportionate force).
The course will open looking at two key areas, one’s personal safety when out and about in the community, whether during the working hours or socially with friends. We will also discuss the emotive issue of what is meant by the term reasonable force.
The issues leading up to the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh are as pertinent today as they were back in July 1986, when she disappeared. Similarly the emotive issue of householders and the law and self defence, with recent high profile cases such as Tony Martin, Vincent Cooke, along with Munir and Tokeer Hussain that have involved the use of force by householders.
Personal Safety Awareness and Self Defence - syllabus:
- Review how to avoid manage or defuse dangerous or potentially dangerous situations
- The law relating to the use of reasonable and necessary force
- Learning how to spot a dangerous situation or person before it is too late
- Escaping from or diffusing a challenging and/or dangerous situations
