PHILOSOPHY

Why should I come to Pendleton College?
Pendleton is one of the few colleges in the area to offer this subject at A-Level. The subject is taught by well-qualified and experienced tutors and combines well with many other subjects on offer.

What will I study?
The A-Level Philosophy course will be enjoyed by students who like asking questions and have an enquiring mind. On the course you will be studying issues such as:
  • Can we be certain about knowledge?
  • What is truth?
  • Who am I?
  • Is there life after death?
Students will also study the ancient philosophers such as Aristotle and Plato.

What will I achieve?
This subject will develop your ability to evaluate fairly complex concepts and as such is highly regarded by universities. Philosophy combines particularly well with History, Government and Politics, Sociology, English, Law and Psychology. Career opportunities include: teaching, civil service, legal profession and journalism.

How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed through written examinations and much emphasis is placed on essay writing and an understanding, interpretation and analysis of philosophical texts.
