The specification of this course will introduce you to a number of key philosophical themes, which provide a broad introduction to the study of philosophy.
What will I study?
You will study:
· Reason and experience; Why should I be moral?
· The Idea of God; tolerance.
· The value of art.
· The debate over free will and determinism.
In year two you will:
· Further develop your understanding of key philosophical concepts, themes, texts and techniques. You will be given the opportunity to specialise further, selecting two themes to study in depth and focusing on philosophical problems through the study of a key text. Candidates will be able to draw on, develop and apply material from both the AS and A2 modules.
How is the course assessed?
You will be assessed at AS-Level by two written papers and, at A2, you will be assessed by two written papers.
What enrichment will there be?
Activities include:
· Related trips and visits.
· Guest speakers.
What could I do next?
Philosophy teaches skills of analysis which would be useful in higher study in many academic subjects at degree level, principally law, English, psychology, politics, history and classics.
This subject is useful for jobs in academia, law, politics or creative industries.
