Getting to know your digital camera through a series of practical sessions guiding you through technical basics including shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. About this course

- use the aperture/shutter priority settings, flash and macro settings on your camera
- import digital images from your camera to the computer
- use Adobe Lightroom to adjust and improve your images
- output images for web and social media
- print a digital image using an inkjet printer.

You will need a camera which has manual settings for aperture and shutter speed, although there will be access to digital cameras during practical sessions if you do not have one. Please bring some images with you to your first class, either on a memory stick or on your camera card.
Please note that all computer work will be done on Apple Macs.

Course programme

- How to use your digital camera, including aperture, shutter speed and ISO
- Importing digital images from your camera to the computer
- Using Lightoom for adjusting and improving your images, including cropping, rotating, tone and colour adjustment and sharpening.
- Preparing images for print and/or web
- Printing using inkjet printers.

You will be taught through structured talks and lectures, demonstrations and practical work. Each student will have their own computer workstation for practical work, and access to good quality scanners and printers. All work is done at your own pace and follows an easily-understood structure. Use of Adobe Photoshop outside the class will be beneficial which can be downloaded from Adobe.com for a 30 day trial for free and then for less than £10 per month.
