Who is this course for?
This course is for Intermediate Photoshop users who wish to take their skills to advanced level. Photoshop is the industry standard for all photo retouching and the course will be enjoyed not only by photographers and artists, but also by anyone who wishes to manipulate pictures, including editing, colour correction, painting, and compositing. Knowledge of Photoshop is essential if you intend to work as a graphic designer and is very useful if you are a web page developer using images, or work in Desktop publishing.

What previous knowledge/experience are required?
You will need to have passed Photoshop Intermediate or demonstrate Intermediate skills at an Advice and Guidance interview.

What is the level of the course?
Level 3 - Advanced

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
This course will provide advanced techniques in image manipulation with Photoshop. Instruction will be given in advanced masking techniques and Photo retouching including Healing and Patching. Course also covers pen tool, vector shapes and vector masks, Actions, Automated tasks, Colour Management and Output. Learning outcomes including what the student will be able to do:

• Capture an image through hardware or software such as camera or scanner.
• Resize an image previously captured, selecting appropriate methods for stated outcome.
• Automate tasks to manage workflow.
• Measure and neutralise highlights and shadows in an image.
• Sharpen the lightness value of an image.
• Create complex selections within an image.
• Clip layers to compose elements within an image.
• Sharpen image using appropriate filters, removing noise and artefacts from image.
• Select appropriate tools to repair and enhance photos.
• Create complex composite images from different sources such as balancing tone and colour of combined imagery to produce seamless result.
• Manipulate multiple effects applied to text or image, justifying choices made.

What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Each student will work with his or her own computer. Smartboard interactive demos, step by step instruction, supervised practical work and reference notes. Homework and practice outside class is an essential ingredient for success on this course.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
As well as continuous feedback from your tutor, you will be handing in specific pieces of work which you will achieve during the course. This is portfolio building rather than exams.

What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
Working Men's College Certificate of Achievement.

What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Students need to commit to making time outside of class to practice; at home or in the college using the Mac and G5 Server facilities. You are able to access your work from the server if you are practicing in the college. You may also take resource materials home if you bring a USB key.

What can I do after completing this course?
Illustrator, Video Editing, Dreamweaver, Flash, Graphic Design.

Are there any other costs? (e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
USB key would be useful.
