Course programme

This course provides the knowledge, skills and experience you need to pursue a successful career in physical education and/or sports coaching. As well as developing an understanding of the requirements of working in the sector, you will have opportunities to apply the skills you learn and gain valuable practical experience of coaching Multisports through work placements in schools, colleges or sports clubs.

You will learn in a multi-purpose sports hall, fully-equipped sports science gym, and on an AstroTurf pitch. You will take part in lectures, practical sessions, project work and tutorials, learning from an experienced course team with expertise in many aspects of physical education and sports coaching.

  • Vocational Teaching and Coaching

You will need:

  • Foundation Degree, HND or equivalent (240 credits) in a physical education, coaching or sports science-related subject
  • GCSE English language and Mathematics at Grade C (or equivalent) or above.
  • Level 1 sports governing body coaching qualification
  • A clean Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) record (formally CRB)
  • Students for which English is a second language are required to pass the IELTS test achieving a minimum of level 6.

You will be assessed through coursework and observational practicals, plus reflective practice in some assignments allowing you to plan your future career.

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve a BSc (Hons) in Physical Education and Coaching.

This course prepares you for a career in teaching and or coaching. During the course, you will be based in an educational or sports coaching setting, allowing you to gain valuable work experience and build contacts within your chosen field. This work experience, alongside the knowledge you have gained throughout the course, will enable you to apply for positions in the Multisports coaching and education field. It will also enable you to progress onto a PGCE in primary, secondary or further education.
