You will achieve greater confidence, fluency and control of the keyboard. You will also improve general musicianship, keyboard harmony skills and aural awareness, as well as extending your theoretical knowledge. The course is taught in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and continues with level 2: module 2. Tutor: David Frankel.

- Play and recognise I, IV and V chords in major and minor keys- Play 3 major and 1 minor scales and arpeggios 1 octave hands separately- Play and recognise different forte and piano dynamics- Play with finger staccato- Play melodic lines with reliable legato technique- Play rhythms with quavers- Play simple tunes hands together with reliable co-ordination and fluency.
Students should have access to a keyboard or piano for practice between classes plus material; one or two printed books as decided in class (approx. cost £10 each).For this course please buy and bring to class a copy of Grade 1 Piano Exam Pieces 2017 & 2018 (ABRSM) and prepare/revise 'La donna è mobile' and 'Dans la forêt lointaine'. You are also asked to begin work on 'Oh when the saints'.
Classes will comprise tutor explanation and demonstration, group playing and individual practice (using headphones so the tutor can check individual progress). Sessions will also include aural skills and theoretical study.Students are required to practise a minimum of 30 minutes a day.

- Developing greater co-ordination between hands, rhythm and pulse and establishing reliable dynamic control
- Chord inversions plus chord VI.
- Level 2 course repertoire will work towards an approximate grade 2 standard (over the course of the three modules)
- Scales (over the course of Level 2 modules): C, G, F and D majors; A, E and D minors (harmonic and melodic, one octave hands together, two octaves hands separately). Arpeggios in those keys (1 octave hands separately).
