About this course
You must be aged 19 or over and have: a Level 1 (Foundation) qualification in a similar subject. evidence of artistic ability or the capability to study at this level. All students will be interviewed to assess their eligibility for the course.

Introduction:
A City & Guilds qualification in Design & Craft provides a practical introduction to the skills and knowledge required for the design process, and for planning and designing rooms. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on both realistic design situations and a personal approach to understanding/developing the visual implications of the design process.
Study Mode & Location:
This one year part-time course will last for 3.5 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.
Course Content:
The course comprises the following two units:
Unit 1: Design for Craft
is a common unit for all schemes at this level. It introduces you to the way in which design ideas develop so that you can take them forward into your chosen craft.
Unit 2: Craft
- this is a specific unit designed to develop skills for planning a room. You will develop knowledge of materials, techniques and processess applicable to this level of work. You will study: colour, design drawing and spatial planning, lighting, selection and compilation of materials and produce decorative schemes for a variety of domestic environments.
Assessment:
Assessment is continuous through project work and assignments.
Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to the BTEC National Diploma in Interior Design or a Level 3 Certificate in Design & Craft.
Additional Information:
You will be required to purchase the recommended protective clothing necessary for this programme of study.
How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
