Course objectives

Play essential grooves on conga, and have tried out clavés, bell and shekere.
Play as an ensemble and lock in to pulse and groove
Read and interpret simple percussion notation.

Course programme

We will learn some of the fundamental conga patterns of rumba and salsa. We will play these patterns "in clavé" - in the right relationship to the pulse and clavé timeline. We will practise the hand shapes that produce good tones, and learn hand exercises : manoteos.

We recommend you record parts of the session, and/or use a mobile 'phone with a camera. Latin percussion study.
