Course programme

This is a chance to play some classic world music styles.
Samba.
Ghanaian highlife.
South African jazz.
Klezmer.
Ootoman makam.
Bhangra and Bollywood.

Listening to sample music, lecture/demonstration and practical rehearsal session. The music for study - by ear and from notation - will be approached in both theoretical and practical ways. Bring your instrument if you have one. Otherwise, percussion and sheet music/recordings will be supplied. You may find it useful to record parts of the sessions.

Additional information

You may also be interested in other non-Western music courses such as Latin percussion, Congas, Tabla, and Steel Pan. The music department is in the process of organising further provision for world music studies.
