What is this course about? What do I need to get on the course? You must:

· Be at least 16 years old when you start the course.

· Have attended the Introduction to Playwork at the college.

· Be employed or working as a volunteer within an appropriate setting with children aged 4-16 years old.

· Have an adequate level of general education to cope with the demands of the course.

· You will need to attend a briefing or advice session where your literacy skills will be assessed and attend an interview.

· You will also be expected to provide satisfactory references and a medical clearance. You will be expected to complete a Disclosure of Criminal Background form.

What will I study? The award consists of 2 units:

· Unit 1: Playwork Practice

· Unit 2: Health and Safety in a Play Setting

The units are assessed through portfolio assignment internally and externally. In order to achieve the full award you must gain a pass grade in each unit. You will need to attend the classroom and the placement enabling you to complete the assignments.
The course will:

· Enable you to develop confidence and competence working with children and young people aged 14-16 years.

· Give you an understanding of play and playwork.

· Allow you to gain a qualification by completing a part time course.

· Allow you to work as a playworker working mainly under supervision.

· Provide valuable knowledge and practical training to support you to gain level 2 qualification in playwork.

· Give you important information on the legal regulations that frame your work.

How do I get on the course? For September 2008 entry complete a College application form, followed by interview.

How much does the course cost? Concessionary students pay a £40 annual registration charge which covers any courses where concessions are available.
