The structure of Indian society, its colonial heritage, and the fabric of India's rich cultural history have shaped, and in turn have been shaped by, the politics and economic changes over the centuries - telling the rich story of how contemporary India came to be. We will examine contemporary India through its politics and society on this interactive lecture day-course.

- Understand key issues related to contemporary Indian society and structures
- Identify key points of change and transformation in the politics of India
- Understand how India has transformed itself economically, and identify the key issues it still faces.

No additional costs. Paper and pen for notes would be useful for students to bring with them to class.

The day course will comprise tutor presentation and opportunities for questions and comments throughout. Where appropriate, there will be use of videos, images, audio and slides.
