Description
PolyU School of Design has been an important hub of design education and research for Hong Kong since 1964.
PolyU is the largest public-funded universities in Hong Kong by student population and is constantly breaking new grounds in applied research. The University's mission is to nurture the young generation to become serving leaders and promote social responsibility through research and innovation, aiming to build a sustainable future for all.
The School first offered part-time evening General Certificate courses in the 1960s. It expanded by offering design and applied arts programmes in Certificate, Higher Certificate, Diploma and Higher Diploma levels and held the first graduation show Polydesign in the 70s. The School was renamed as the Swire School of Design in the 1980s and launched a number of BA programmes, including Graphic, Fashion, Industrial and Interior Design. The first taught postgraduate degree in Design, MA in Design, was offered in 1990. In the 2000s and after, the School innovated through its curriculum by partnering with Graduate School of Business in offering MBA programme in Innovation and Design Management, the launching of games production service unit, a platform to develop student designs for commercialization, and a design institution for social innovation.
The School is ranked as one of the Top Design Schools in the World by BusinessWeek, Top in Asia among the Top 25 in the World by Business Insider and by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings® by Subject - Art and Design. The University is ranked 29th in QS Asian University Rankings and 6th QS Top 50 Under 50 Rankings.
