Course Level Level 3

Description
This is a short course of around 10 hours delivery that can typically be arranged over 2 consecutive days or over five shorter sessions. It is aimed at those with administrative responsibilities for the maintenance of electrical equipment and for those undertaking practical inspection and testing of electrical equipment. The course can be delivered in College, or at the customers own venue if preferred. Successful candidates will be awarded a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3.

Course Length
This is a short course of around 10 hours delivery that can typically be arranged over 2 consecutive days or over five shorter sessions

What will I study?
The course is built around two separate units of competence, each one being separately assessed and certificated:

a) The Certificate of Management of Electrical Equipment Maintenance
(Unit 1 - Management of electrical equipment maintenance: 2377-001)
1. The law and scope of the legislation.
2. Electrical equipment.
3. In-service inspection and testing.
4. Documentation and labelling.
5. Training for competence.
6. Instruments.

This qualification is aimed at those with administrative responsibilities for the maintenance of electrical equipment.

b) The Certificate for the Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment
(Unit 1 - Inspection and testing of electrical equipment: 2377-002)
1. Electrical construction.
2. Inspection.
3. Combined inspection and testing.
4. Recording.
5. Equipment.

This qualification is for those undertaking practical inspection & testing of electrical equipment.


How will I learn?
There will be a combination of PowerPoint presentations, audiovisual materials, and practical exercises used during training. Candidate participation will also be encouraged throughout. As this qualification is based upon knowledge and understanding of the IEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers) Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (ISBN 0 85296 776 4), candidates will each require a copy of this publication. It is advised to study the document prior to the course, as it will be referred to throughout and the ';open book';examinations are based upon it. Course notes are also supplied,

How will I be assessed?
Self-assessment will be by sample questioning and there will be a hands on testing session including record completion. Formal assessment for the Management of electrical equipment maintenance unit (2377-001) will be by multiple-choice on-line examination consisting of 45 questions to be completed in 1 hours. Formal assessment for the Inspection and testing of electrical equipment (2377-002) will also be by multiple-choice on-line examination consisting of 30 questions to be completed in 1 hour. Candidates for 2377-002 will also be required to demonstrate an ability to inspect and test an item of electrical equipment and correctly complete the appropriate test forms and records. Each assessment can be taken independently according to candidate requirements, and the cost of one or the other examination is included in the course fees. There will be an additional charge for those wishing to sit both exams.
