The course covers practical and theoretical aspects of portraiture in photography. You will gain confidence in photographing people and develop your own approach while learning about lighting and the pose in various contexts and genres. Explore a range of approaches using both ambient and natural light both inside the studio and on location. You will learn to use the manual settings of the camera creatively with and without a flash gun to gain maximum effect.

Please bring your camera (if you have one) to the classes and you may wish to bring a notebook and pen. The City Lit has a range of Digital SLR cameras, tripods, speedlights (flash guns) and lenses which you are welcome to use during the hours of the class. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note: PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to). and conditions apply, visit
The emphasis is on practical work using natural and available lighting, indoors and outdoors. We will look at the work of other photographers and give feedback on each other’s work. There will be discussions and group work.
While demonstrations and illustrated lectures will guide, advice and teach you, you will benefit from a positive group dynamic where you can share your images and ideas in a supportive environment.
