Course Overview
This programme is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to gain practical work experience while working towards a recognised qualification.

Course Structure
The programme is delivered over one year with attendance at College and will also include work experience at a local horticulture business or garden centre.


Qualification Aims
City & Guilds/NPTC Certificate in Practical Horticulture Skills

Assessments/Examinations
Students will be observed and assessed on practical work undertaken while on placement at the potting shed & at college to ensure that they are competent within the workplace. A portfolio must be compiled and students are expected to gain evidence for their portfolios from a variety of sources.
Students will also be expected to take qualifications in Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, First Aid and Personal Development which are achieved by portfolio completion and or formal examination.

  • £102.50 Registration/certification (registrations and certification is free for students under 19 years)


Students will need to provide suitable protective footwear and waterproof clothing for the practical. It is essential that all candidates have a current Tetanus inoculation for health and safety requirements and it is recommended that you check with your GP whether you require Hepatitis B inoculation. In addition all students will need to provide suitable stationery resources for all theory lessons.
