You will normally be required to offer a 100-day statutory placement in your workplace. If you want to offer a first placement, work with an NQSW or AMPH student or wish to work as an off-site educator please contact us.

You will be supported by a tutor and by a practice assessor/mentor for the practical element of the course. They will observe you working with a learner, write a report on your practice and will support you in managing wider aspects of practice education.

You are also expected to develop a continuing awareness of your learning needs and a commitment to continuing professional development.

About this course

This course is designed for qualified and experienced social workers who have already met the requirements for Stage 1 of PEPS. Successful completion will enable you to take full responsibility for the teaching and assessment of a final year placement social work student or other learner who is being assessed against professional social work criteria.

Course programme

What will this course cover?

This short course covers domains A-D of the ‘Professional Practice Educator Standards’ and the ‘Values for Practice Educators and Supervisors’. It focusses on extending the breadth and depth of your practice in managing, enabling and assessment of learning and on the development of your own practice. There is particular emphasis on the evaluation of your own practice, developing specific teaching methods and involvement in the wider aspects of practice education.

A variety of teaching methods are used within the programme including workshops, self-directed learning, group work and tutorials. Online learning will be used to complement traditional methods of teaching.

The assessment for this course will focus on both theoretical understanding and practical skills.
