Description of the Course
BTEC Entry Level Certificates in Skills for Working Life introduce learners to the skills they need to work in a career area they are interested in. Entry Level Certificates are the first qualifications that can help individuals to get further training, or even a job.
The Health and Social Care Entry level qualification offers Learners a starting point on the National Qualifications Framework. Learners can progress to level 1 qualifications such as NVQs / Foundation Child Care and BTEC Introductory courses.
Course content
Learners will study towards an Entry qualification in Basic / Literacy and Numeracy Skills. The following personal development skills are available within the certificate: Information Technology / Dealing with Problems / Improving Your Learning / Working Together. Within Health and Social Care, Learners will cover three main units: Caring for Children, Caring for Older People and Health Emergencies. Learners will be taught in a small group with a comprehensive Tutorial system and individual support where necessary. Each Learner will have an individual Learning Plan that they will work towards with the support of their Personal Tutor. The Time Table will include practical lessons, portfolio building, I.T, Literacy, Numeracy and Tutorials. Students are also required to do a 2 week work experience placement.
Assessment
An initial assessment to assess individual levels of ability, will be carried out. Through-out the course, on-going assessments and reviewes will be carried out to check progress.
Who is the course for?
This course is designed for young people who want to progress on to Level 1 college courses, but do not have the required grades at this time. The course will help Learners to improve their Literacy & Numeracy skills and gain an entry level qualification related to their area of interest.
